‘Royal Pains’ season 5, episode 6 preview: An extremely random Gail Simmons cameo

Usually when you see product placement happen on a show, it does not happen in the form of an actual person. However, we do somewhat wonder if that was what USA was striving to do with their inclusion of Gail Simmons into their new episode of “Royal Pains” airing on Wednesday night.

For some evidence as to what the show was trying to do, it’s pretty obvious when the patient-of-the-week introduces Hank to “Gail Simmons from ‘Top Chef Masters,'” and then disappears before she is able to do anything else. Two reasons that this product placement is obvious? Simmons only joined this version of the show as head judge this year (as she is more well known for her role in the flagship version of the show), and “Top Chef Masters” literally premieres an hour after “Royal Pains” on Bravo.

Yes, this sort of placement annoys us greatly, even if we like Gail and are absolutely enormous fans of anything “Top Chef.” (There’s nothing better than getting jealous over someone else’s culinary abilities right after making dinner.) This episode of “Royal Pains” as a whole has not really tipped its cap when it comes to the story, but we hope for something that is actually important story-wise, after we have already forgotten about the bulk of what happened last week save for maybe the fact that Jeremiah was absent, which will be corrected tonight.
