‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Will Batista stay on the force?
In this edition of Obvious Theater, we present an answer to a question that most of you likely expected: Are we going to see more of Angel Batista at Miami Metro through much of “Dexter” season 8? The obvious answer here should really only be one thing which is “yes.” There’s no other reason to think that his plans to “retire” were going to stick following the death of Captain LaGuerta, and we now have confirmation of this very thing.
David Zayas himself confirms this news about his character to Entertainment Weekly, and explains how the death is a driving force once again in reinvigorating his passion for police work:
“He’s back this season, especially with the revelation of LaGuerta’s death … He’s going to have an interesting way of dealing with certain things.”
So is it possible that Batista finds out Dexter’s secret at some point? We have to say so, and while he does not know what will happen, Zayas is hoping to see it just so he can act out a response:
“[I hope he will] maintain his dignity, maintain his honesty, hopefully do the right thing. I feel like Batista has a big heart, which sometimes leads to bad choices as well as good ones. But hopefully when and if the truth comes out he’ll handle it like a professional.”
Out of anyone who could take Dexter out on the force, Batista remains one of the more interesting options, being that he is someone whose police skills have been somewhat underestimated. Quinn is far too weak of an actual cop to do it, and Deb already had an opportunity to shoot him square in the head and messed it up.
