‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 finale spoilers: Robin and Barney’s battle begins

Yes, we completely understand if you watch the preview below for Monday’s “How I Met Your Mother” finale, and are disappointed in some way that it has nothing to do with Barney and Robin’s wedding. At the same time, perhaps you will take the fact that it is still extremely hilarious as some sort of consolation.

Basically, Barney and Robin find out who they consider to be their primary super-villains, their Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze to their Batman and …. Robin? (To be honest, we couldn’t find the perfect superhero analogy here. Help us out in the comments if you like.) Keegan Michael-Key and Casey Wilson (someone save “Happy Endings”!) are guest-starring as quite possibly the most annoying couple ever, who first object to the two having cigars out in the open because of the smell. Then, they object to them even being visible in a bag.

First of all, we love how Wilson’s character immediately reminds us of Cecily Strong’s “Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation with at a Party” from “Saturday Night Live,” complete with the arrogance and the complete disregard for anything factual. Then, we love thinking about the various ways in which we assume that Neil Patrick Harris and Cobie Smulders’ characters are going to go completely out of their way in order to make these two have as absolutely miserable of a night as possible. If this eventually ends with a fight sequence complete with “pow!” and “ka-blam!” popups, we’re pretty sure that this will be as close to Heaven as we can get on this earth.

If you ever find yourself frustrated when watching this video, or even thinking about the finale on Monday night, we implore you to remember this: There are already plans in place for season 9, and supposedly, they are going to be good. Let’s just hope that it is true.
