‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Jennifer Carpenter, producers talk Deb’s progression
What in the world is going to happen to Debra Morgan on “Dexter” season 8? The answer to that question is not entirely clear, but this is starting to get truly interesting.
In the latest season 8 promotional video, the show’s executive producers and actors (including of course Jennifer Carpenter) open up about what has been a pretty shocking journey for the character since first arriving on the scene during the pilot. If you remember way back when, Deb was a relatively bright-eyed police officer overtly concerned with doing the right thing and there was no gray area at all. Then, things started to change in this department following the death of Lundy in season 4, up until she let the killer of Jordan Chase go in season 5.
Now, Deb is clearly in the darkest place that she has ever been. She has been consumed for so long by her connection to Dexter and nothing else, and she now has to deal with the fact that the very man she loves, and the only one that she has ever been able to really be vulnerable with, has turned her into something that she never was before: A killer. Season 8 will be in many ways about what becomes of her now. Will she kill again? Is she going to be able to continue to work with the police? So far, much of the story looks to be about one giant nervous breakdown, and it is giving Carpenter a chance to give an Emmy-caliber performance.
What do you think about this new video, and do you think that there is any way at all that Deb is going to be able to get herself out of this terrible hole? If you want to see more of Deb’s despair in a recent teaser for the show, you can do so over at the link here.
