‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 finale spoilers: Should Callie / Arizona fans be worried?
Even though the “Grey’s Anatomy” finale on May 16 is still over a week away, Shonda Rhimes has managed to already give fans of Callie and Arizona some serious reasons to shake in their boots. Why? Thank Hilarie Burton. The “White Collar” actress’ recent run as Lauren has created the speculation that there could be some trouble in paradise coming up. Has there been any real cheating yet between Lauren and Arizona? No, but there has been some flirty behavior, and one thing can certainly lead to another. Of course, the sad thing is that Callie has tried to be so patient with Arizona ever since the plane crash.
As you would expect, Rhimes was coy in a recent interview with TVLine on the subject of what could be coming up for the pair, but she certainly left the door open for a Calzona cheating scandal to be one of the main ingredients of what is sure to be a very emotional finale coming up:
“We’re equal opportunity over here at Grey’s Anatomy … Straight people have their cheating moments all of the time. We’ve created this relationship that’s very interesting and complex, and I feel like we’re at a moment where this [temptation] feels earned. We’re doing something that feels very in keeping with what’s right for these characters.”
Ultimately, this is a scandal that we hope does not happen, and not necessarily because we think that Calzona should be immune or are any more sacred than any other couple that has been on the show as of late. Instead, this road has just been traveled down before, and it starts to become uncomfortable when the assumption is made that so many couples have cheating moments during their lives.

I’m a Calzona fan and I tried to remain positive, but after reading everything Shonda has said, I’m expecting the worse.
I’m in agreement with you that this whole cheating storyline has been done before and it doesn’t need to be done again because cheating doesn’t occur in every relationship. Plus, in my opinion, it’s totally out of Arizona’s character to cheat, especially with everything she’s been through with Callie (the car accident, Callie being pregnant with Mark’s baby, coming back from Africa, etc.). It just doesn’t make sense to me.
I have my thoughts on what will happen and what this big “gasp” moment will be between the couple… 1) Lauren and Arizona will kiss, but (hopefully) Arizona stops it before it goes any further. Arizona, being wracked with guilt confesses to Callie and Callie either wants a separation or tells Arizona to leave the apartment (the gasp moment). 2) Instead of Arizona telling Callie about a kiss, Callie catches them in the act and she leaves upset, so Arizona runs after her in hopes of explaning things, but Callie doesn’t want to hear it and tells Arizona that she has to move out (again, the gasp moment).
Sorry about the long response! This is just a storyline that I’m not looking forward and despite what Shonda says, I don’t believe it’s “in keeping with what’s right for these characters.”
