‘Duck Dynasty’ season 3 review: The battle of the brothers
When it comes to “Duck Dynasty,” some things never seem to change. For example, the boys are always going to be the boys, and they are always going to compete with each other … even if everyone is pretty wealthy and doesn’t have anything to be jealous about.
The primary story for this half-hour was pretty simple: Willie, Jase, and Jep engaged in a series of competitions to try and determine who was the most skilled out of all the three brothers, and the battle was quite an interesting one. Basically, we saw them squaring off in everything from outdoor activities to children’s board games, which makes this one of the first times that we have ever been entertained by watching someone else play a game. (Usually, this is what makes you leave a party.) Jep ended up being the loser, which led to him having the unfortunate honor of being duck-taped to a pole.
Could you argue that this “competition” is proof that “Duck Dynasty” is running out of ideas? Possibly, but it was still entertaining. The show only has one more episode coming up after this, and it looks to be a pretty epic one as the Robertson family takes off from their traditional territory into a new (and very beachy) frontier. What was more interesting here is that there was an undercurrent of emotion through the competition story, as it was really about these three guys attempting to rediscover their youth.
As for the other story of the episode, it was equally simple: Phil was forced to deal with cats in the house. Apparently when you live in the south, this is something that is not always universally-accepted. Still, it’s nice to see a little bit more of his cuddly side … even if it lasts for only a few minutes.
