‘American Idol’ top 5 spoilers: What will Candice Glover, Kree Harrison sing?
No offense towards Lazaro Arbos, but does anyone else feel like the real drama on “American Idol” is about to start now? The top five (all women) each bring something incredible to the table, and one of them is going to be the first female winner of the competition since Jordin Sparks all the way back in season 6.
But what are the ladies going to sing? Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe was kind enough to scoop two of the songs specifically, presumably of the “Year You Were Born” variety rather than the “Divas” theme. First and foremost, Candice Glover is officially going to be taking on the Paula Abdul hit “Straight Up.” This is an extremely ambitious choice given that Paula was famous for being a judge on the show for the first eight seasons, and Andrew Garcia had himself a big moment with the song back during season 6.
Meanwhile, Kree Harrison is going to be singing “She Talks to Angels,” and (this is the hit from the Black Crowes released in 1990 for those who are unfamiliar.) What we really like about these two songs is even though “Straight Up” has been performed before, neither one has been completely done to death. Meanwhile, Candice in particular seems to have realized that what is really resonating with viewers is her taking songs that are unexpected choices and turning them into something completely new and original.
Granted, we don’t feel that any song choice will get the ladies in trouble this week. Based on the schedule for the rest of the season, “American Idol” is going to be forced into a non-elimination round either this week or next.

Once again, AI mgt is “subtly” touting/pushing two “random contestants.” If you are now surprised, raise your hand… anybody, raise your hand. . .
