‘Breaking Bad’ season 5: Spin-off being considered for Bob Odenkirk’s Saul

If you remember that April Fools’ Day took place over a week ago, then you should be very well aware that the following it is not a joke. It’s seriously being considered, and we’re not quite sure how to think about it just yet.

Deadline is reporting that AMC and “Breaking Bad” creator Vince Gilligan are in the early stages of talks about a potential spin-off series, one with a more comedic tone than what we have seen from the likes of Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, that focuses on the adventures of Bob Odenkirk’s Saul Goodman. If this show was picked up, Gilligan would stay on board along with writer / producer Peter Gould, but it should be noted that this is in the extremely early stages and no one is committed to doing anything just yet.

If this show did happen, it could do very well. Odenkirk has developed a devoted following for this character, and he is one of the funnier parts of what is otherwise a cold, dark, and pretty serious show. But if this show fails, would it tarnish the reputation of “Breaking Bad”? Spin-off shows are always a big risk; sometimes you get a “Frasier,” but other times you can end up with more of a “Joey.”

Hopefully, we’ll have some more information on this series later this summer, but there’s probably not going to be much available at the moment in order to ensure that no major spoilers about the “Breaking Bad” series finale end up getting out. There’s also no word on if the show would shoot in New Mexico, which received huge benefits in tourism thanks to the original show.
