‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Melissa McCarthy and ‘birthday girl’ Taran Killam
Melissa McCarthy will be back on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend for her second-ever appearance as host, and if you had any doubt at all that the “Bridesmaids” and “Mike & Molly” star was going to fail at bringing you some laughs, hopefully the first promo for the episode below will ease some of your concerns.
Joined by the consistently-underrated Taran Killam, the promo showcases the two doing some silly things, whether it be running around as the “cool kids in visors” to the obligatory reference to April Fools’ Day that you had to assume was going to happen at some point. In addition to all of this, there was also a pretty hilarious segment in which Killam desperately tries to tell McCarthy about his birthday (which actually was on April 1), only to have it ignored until she coddles him in the very end.
It’s not difficult at all to see why McCarthy was brought back for more on the show. She was one of the more well-received hosts from last season, and thanks to “Identity Thief” earlier this year, she proved that she is a major draw at the box office outside of doing work with Kristen Wiig. We anticipate a reprisal of at least one of her characters from the first time that she was around, such as the aggressively creepy Arlene.
The musical guest for the week is Phoenix, a band that you may or may not have actually heard of. This is clearly a show where the host is the primary selling point, but the musical guest could nonetheless still be amazing.
