ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 spoilers: Tony Goldwyn talks Fitz’s emotional state

There are a number of reasons to appreciate ABC’s “Scandal,” but one that certainly has fans online continually talked and interested in more is the ever-so-complicated romantic storyline regarding Olivia Pope and the President of the United States. Does Fitz really care for her, and is the feeling mutual? We know that there is plenty of passion there, but whether or not that supersedes their own personal career ambitions is a decision that has already played out on the show time and time again.

While Tony Goldwyn did not necessarily guarantee that the pendulum was going to swing back towards Olivia and Fitz being together all of the time while in an interview with ABC 15 (which you can see below), the actor did provide a reason for fans of the couple to be excited: he believes that there are genuine feelings there, and his character is still recovering from being in a hurt and vulnerable place.

“When he discovered that this woman that he revered had helped rig the vote and make his election fraudulent  it shattered him. He’s still consumed with Olivia and obsessed with her. People are very upset at the moment with what’s happening with us, and they seem to be so emotionally invested in it that it’s fun for us.”

Meanwhile, Kerry Washington also told the affiliate that part of what makes this part so exciting to play is the moral ambiguity of it all; you can be someone who does not always make the best or most ethical of decisions, but people still find a way to root for you nonetheless.
