‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: What’s coming up for Jensen Ackles’ Dean
When we first heard the news that we are going to be meeting an ancient angel named Metatron on “Supernatural” season 8, we automatically assumed that the character was going to be spending some time with Misha Collins’ Castiel considering the similar lineage that the two parties share. However, we are learning now that this may not necessarily be the case … or at least that if Castiel interacts with him, he may not be alone.
Speaking to TVLine, show executive producer Jeremy Carver does his best to tease some of what is going to be an exciting story coming up for Jensen Ackles’ Dean while Sam (Jared Padalecki) is put through some of the trials in the latest effort to obtain the tablet:
“I can’t say much about the Trials, but when it comes to what might be in store for Dean, I have one word: Tron.”
Based on what we know already, we’re pretty sure that Carver is not talking about the Tron that involves Jeff Bridges (though seeing him appear on this show would be pretty awesome).
At the moment, the Metatron character (which does not have a name attached to it yet) will be appearing in a number of the episodes to close off this season, and the door could be open for more in the future given what happens. Since we know that the tablet story is only going to intensify, and that Misha Collins is a full-on regular for season 9, it would certainly not come as a shock to see even more of the character moving into the fall.

These comments are funny. Us viewers, as invested as we are in the story and characters, don’t own either.we didn’t create these characters so what makes us think we know better or can demand deaths. As much as you love or hate a character, someone else out there feels the opposite to you. So suck it up people. Like the show? Watch it. Don’t like the show? Don’t watch it. Dean is an awesome character and doesn’t need a whole lot to shine. Ackles does a great job with what he’s given. The chemistry between Dean and Sam and Dean and Castiel is awesome. Dean anchors the show. He’s good at it. So whatever they come up with, Dean will be important. Just as Sam is. And maybe Castiel. Family isn’t just blood and we’ve been told repeatedly that the three of them are family now. Why all the hate people?

Kate, how dare you can ask for Sam to be killed. Supernatural is nothing without the Sam character. I love both brothers. My favorite is of course Sam. Dean has always been very bossy, annoying and also has a irritating voice and cries a lot.. Dean has also shown hypocrisy and double standards when it comes to Sam and he also has been so demanding to Castiel for favors and never uses the word please. Just also remember if Jared leaves, there will be no supernatural show. So suck it up.

JJ I agree – DEAN WINCHESTER DOES NOT BEG! But… apparently he does… numerous times… who is writing this stuff??? You never see sam on his knees begging that i can remember! Probably cos he wouldn’t be convincing, but still, it tarnishes a character when you do crap like that to it! Women don’t want to see a man in that position and men sure as hell aren’t going to want to relate!
I wouldn’t be overly concerned if Sam went back to college. Dean could ring him once in a while to check in… People who think that the majority of women that tune in to this show do it for any other reason than the Dean eye-candy aren’t being realistic. (That’s like saying, as funny as deluise was, that anyone watched jump-street for anything other than johnny depp!) Bad writing, good writing, angels and all that other stuff – take Dean out and the show is gone. Dean’s the character people WANT to relate to. So for the love of God I wish they’d give the guy a better storyline and stop focusing on fringe characters no-one cares about. Tis a shallow shallow world I know, but we take small pleasures where we can! :) Just my opinion of course…. :P

Go cry in a corner haters, Cas has become as important as Sam and Dean are and if you don’t like him, why are you still watching the show? With Misha being a regular again in season 9, the show is no longer about Sam and Dean, but about Team Free Will (Sam, Dean AND Cas). DEAL WITH IT.
And nope, Dean has never been a secondary character, guys. Just because Sam gets all the myth-arc storylines doesn’t mean that Dean doesn’t have his own ones. What happens is that Dean is the emotional/psychological hero while Sam is, well, the Hero. Cas has both emotional and myth-arc storylines and is therefore the most balanced character on SPN at the moment. But I do hope this changes and Dean gets his own myth-arc storyline as well, and Sam gets an emotional one.

I would love to see Dean take center stage instead of it always being Sam! I can’t stand Sam! He’s boring, whiny and annoying. I wish the producers at Supernatural would realize that if Jensen Ackles left there would be no show. No one would watch Jared/Sam! If Jared/Sam left people would still watch Dean! I would love if it they killed off Sam. I think a show with Dean, Cas, Benny and maybe Garth would be better!

I am with those that say -“i will believe it when i see it.” Dean never gets his own arc-he is always playing second fiddle to sam or to cas. Thats why s9 I won’t be watching due to the fact that they signed misha/cas on as a regular. I don’t like Misha and I hate the Cas character. Since he has been brought on to spn the show has changed from its original premise- hunting things/family business to the angel show. I liked the angel story in s4 hated it since s5. If Dean gets an arc in s9 I will pop in so to speak to watch it. If he doesn’t I am out all together.

All these cry babies are really starting to tick me off. All i see dean doing if he does get a story is lie lie lie which causes more issues. Im fine with sam getting the spot light cause sam is the main character as much as ya hate to see it that way. Dean has always been secondary. His role was always support. His quirk and wittiness is what made him likable in the first place. He is a great character as it is. And even in sams story arcs hes proven to not be useless so stop bitchin. With or wothout a story arc you dumb females are gonna druel over him anyway. Dont ruin the show with your pathetic opinions

With the spoiler for episode 19 in which Naomi is supposed to visit Dean and Cas saying that he was protecting the tablet from not only her but also Dean this mention of Metatron is a possibly good indication that Dean will be playing a bigger part in season 9. While I don’t like all the Angel arcs & I’m not thrilled with Castiel being around more in Season 9 I still have hopes for a good arc since with the season being renewed so early the writers have had time to plan for things that will set up a really good arc for next season and hopefully give Dean good exposure.

I’m so sick of Castiel. Yet another character to trump Dean, yay. It’s worse because Dean – rightly so – is grateful for being pulled out of hell, but it makes Dean almost subservient in some ways, and I hated the scene with Castiel beating the crap out of him and him begging in the exact same way he did with Samifer. Castiel is not family. Castiel is a sidekick getting too much screen time played by the biggest troll on the internet. The show supposed to be about Dean and Sam, not Sam and Castiel with backup from Dean.

I’m right there with the ‘I’ll believe it when I see it.” I had high hopes when the first few episodes of S8 came out and, for the eighth year in a row, Dean was relegated to cape bearer and cheerleader. It was a clean cut, Mr. Carver. Done is ONE episode. Good on you.
I call Dean the maypole — from his character all other stories revolve, and Dean reacts, cheers others on, and sometimes huffs and puffs and threatens to blow somebody’s house down.
Jensen Ackles is too fine of an actor to be left flapping in the wind year after year. Instead of writing so many episodes for guest stars, Writers, how about writing one for Dean. (Yeah, I know, “Welcome to Fantasyland.”)

Im skipping through the episodes lately, so over dean’s lack of a decent storyline. Here’s what I don’t get, sam bores me to tears, I can’t be the only one who thinks he’s got all the emotional range of a piece of wood. First episode back this season he’s reunited with his brother and you would never realize it had been a year by the lack of expression on his head. The charismatic, playful character of dean is what I loved this show for and what I honestly think has carried it through. After all, sam has admitted many a time he’d rather be doing something else, without his brother. Its like a sad one-sided relationship. I dont want to feel sorry for dean, i want to see him in action mode taking on the world. I still watch, hoping he’ll get something meatier to sink his teeth into instead of worrying about everyone else…purgatory was absolutely brilliant, benny too. Dean fighting back to back on equal ground with someone who needed him as much as he did him. After 8 years though I’m ready to admit defeat. If he’s the han solo of this operation then I’m ready for him to be the hero. Luke can go off and be all serious and sulk if he wants to.

I agree Dean needs his own storyline besides being the guy who drives the car. Dean going to hell was the last good one. Sam isn’t the only one on the show.

Please, Please give Dean a really good Storyline he has been on the sidelines for too long. All you gave us was a drinking dean and helping sam all the time.

Dean’s storyline has always been to watch over Sam. Supernatural was always supposed to be about Sam first and foremost, but the personality of Dean always makes him the star. I don’t care what the writers have planned, because i know Dean will be awesome in it. :-) Can’t wait to find out!

Yeah I agree with the comments. Dean needs a storyline of his own for once, he can’t just be Sam and Cas’ caretaker all the time. But I’m afraid we’re not gonna get any, not this season at least. I guess we are all used to it by now, anyway.

I have to agree that this is just a tease. I had heard or ready along time ago about this episode. It involves Charie and Dean gets sucked into the video game. Think it will be a good filler and fun for Dean and Jensen did do the voice for Tron character on the video game years ago, I believe. As for a story line with this wishful thinking for us Dean fans. I would LOVE to be wrong!! Dean and Jensen deserve so much more. It seems like Dean is the poster child for domestic abuse on SPN, both mentally and now again physically getting the crap beat out of him by a loved one. We are family. I need you. How said is that. PLEASE show this man some unconditional love and respect.

Thanks for the article/speculation. I was actually surprised to hear about a Dean spoiler- I can’t remember the last time we had one of those. But considering Dean’s only been tied to the show’s mytharc for 2 out of 8 seasons, I agree that “Tron” most likely refers to the video game episode. I’d love to be proven wrong, though!

I don’t think this is going to have anything to do with Metatron either- more likely the video game episode featuring Charlie.

How exciting – NOT. Another character for Dean to be a sidekick to. As Deanfan said, Dean fans have been teased for years and then all Dean does is drive the car. So many plot points have been dropped or given to other characters that could and should have had Dean something than the caretaker. I will only come back to Supernatural if Dean actually gets his own story in the mytharc.
So I will never be back.

I’ll believe this is something for Dean when I see it. The Dean fans have been teased with a story for Dean for years, yet nothing ever pans out. I don’t trust Carver or the PTBs anymore. Show me the story first, then I’ll believe them.
