‘American Idol’ top 10 preview: Are Janelle Arthur, Amber Holcomb in danger?

American IdolRemember what happened during “American Idol” season 9? That was certainly one of the show’s most-polarizing years, mostly because we saw a very bizarre pattern unfold over the course of the episodes. When the live shows first began, you were hearing left and right that this was the ladies’ year to take it all, and there was not really going to be a whole ton of competition as to who was going to end up making it into the top five. Then, many of the women were taken out very early in the competition, and we were left with a top five that only had one woman in it in Crystal Bowersox.

So are we at risk of seeing that play out yet again? To an extent, yes … but only an extent. It’s pretty conclusive to many fans that Candice Glover, Kree Harrison, and Angie Miller are the three best singers this season, and they will all likely be safe for a few weeks as a result. However,we would not be surprised at all if the young ladies voting out there send a pair of other female contestants to the wayside before taking out any of the guys. With that in mind, we now turn to the three Singer to Watch, a list that we will be doing every week to show who needs to step it up.

Curtis Finch Jr. – He has a great voice when he uses it for good rather than evil. The problem is, he comes from the Jacob Lusk school of caterwauling, and he also comes from the Jacob Lusk school of saying inexplicable and weird things that sabotage his own voting block. He’s the guy in the biggest amount of trouble.

Amber Holcomb – We really like Amber, and she is probably better suited to have a career as a pop star than any other singer in the top ten. Unfortunately for her, we’re not sure that voters have seen enough of her and know her musical style well enough for her to be safe. Every other one of the ladies is so clearly defined that they may have an advantage.

Janelle Arthur – The best way to describe this one is simple: Kree and Paul Jolley could take so mcuh of the country vote that there may not be much left for Janelle. Having a final 10 that is 30% country really seems like a bit much considering how saturated this market has been on singing shows the past two years.

Who do you think is in the most trouble moving forward on “American Idol”? If you want to see what we think some of the contestants should sing, you can do so by heading over to the link here.
