‘Once Upon a Time’ season 2 spoilers: Meghan Ory books new pilot; what’s it mean?

Meghan Ory, Once Upon a TimeWhen you have a show with an enormous cast like “Once Upon a Time” does, there is one thing that is inevitably going to happen at some point: some actors are going to look to other opportunities rather than stay onto jobs where they may or may not receive a whole heap of screen time.

For the latest example of that, look now at what is happening with Meghan Ory. According to Deadline, the actress behind Little Red Riding Hood has signed on to be the female lead in “Intelligence,” the CBS drama pilot starring Josh Holloway (“Lost”) as a man with special abilities thanks in part to a chip that was implanted in his brain. The show also stars Marg Helgenberger of “CSI” fame, and we are currently enjoying referring to it as “serious Chuck” due to its similarities to a certain famous NBC series.

There are some interesting things worth noting when it comes to Ory’s deal with “Once Upon a Time” right away. While she is listed as a series regular for the year (which ensured that the showrunners would have her character to work with for the entire year), she is not reportedly locked into the same sort of long-term deal as Jennifer Morrison, Josh Dallas, and some of the other original stars. This is further evidenced by the fact that her pilot for “Intelligence” is in first position, meaning that she will leave if this show does end up getting picked up for series.

Reportedly, the main reason for Ory’s promotion this year (despite not a lot going on in the world of Ruby) was because of massive interest in the actress for other projects. She had guest-starred on an episode of “Supernatural” during the ABC show’s first season, and there were plenty of calls about pilot deals.

Of course, it should also be mentioned that there is another interesting connection between these two shows: “Once Upon a Time” executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis know Holloway very well, and there was a time when everyone was clamoring to see the “Lost” star make an appearance her.

What do you think about this news, and how do you think Ruby’s exit would be handled if Ory does leave? If you want to watch a preview for next week’s new “Once Upon a Time,” you can do so over at the link here.
