‘American Idol’: Top 10 to tackle songs of Carrie Underwood, Kris Allen, and more
We now know just what the top 10 on “American Idol” are going to perform this coming week, and it is a pretty interesting theme given the fact that we are in the twelfth season of the show: songs from an “American Idol” winner. The theme is a little bit vague, but it seems to include either songs that these people performed while on the show, or have recorded or covered since re-entering the real world. This allows there to be a pretty hefty catalogue of music out there, and there are also plenty of genres covered.
With that being said, the women clearly have a disadvantage in that unless they want to take on a song performed originally by a guy, they are stuck with only the songs of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, and Jordin Sparks. While two of these ladies are the show’s most-successful contestants ever, variety is the spice of life.
We’ll get into some specific song recommendations over the coming days, but who wants to bet now that Paul Jolley tries to pull off something Scotty McCreery did, and and that Curtis Finch, Jr. will tackle a hit from either Ruben Studdard or Fantasia? Who wants to bet that Angie Miller does her own twist on Lee DeWyze’s “Falling Slowly” duet? What will be just as interesting as the song choices are what the performers choose to ultimately do with them. (Update: Yes, Kris Allen covered this song as well. Thanks for pointing it out and refreshing my memory!)
Ultimately, we probably would have preferred to see this opened up to include all former contestants thanks to some of the great music that is out there from people who did not win their season (Adam Lambert, Crystal Bowersox, David Archuleta, and so on).
What are some songs that you are hoping to hear performed on the show? In addition to sharing your thoughts below, you can also check out our full review of the results show last night over at the link here.

I would have loved to see someone perform Adam Lambert’s song “What Do You Want From Me” but since he didn’t win I guess it off to Youtube for me.

Is the theme ‘ A Song From American Idol Winners?’ Other websites state that next week’s theme is ‘Music Fom The Idols’. Does this mean that – say Amber Holcomb or Candice Glover- cannot select to sing ‘Spotlight’ by Jennifer Hudson? There are other Am-Idol Top 10 Finalists from past years with better music than the previous winners. And, since a White Guy With A Guitar (WGWG) has won most years… then, good luck to the other types of singers in the competition this year ! !

Why are Idol peeps filming Adam Lambert in Singapore? Many thought it was because they would show something about Adam when someone sang one of his songs.
I look forward to whatever it is they are up to as lobng as it has to do with Adam.

Why would you even mention Lee’s version of Falling Slowly? Kris was the first person to sing Falling Slowly on idol, and he did it beautifully, so you kinda missed it there. Lee did a pretty poor job on FS in my opinion.

So sorry that I was mislead by google alert tagging Kris Allen, to come here & discover That the tile was pretty misleading! I wonder why dd you do that? & yes of course, falling slowly was brought to the show by Kris during the movie songs week, it won an Oscar that year! A performance & a single still on the charts because of Kris. Anyways, thnx for the deception, I learned my lesson & I won’t come here again, no matter how many times I read Kris named in your titles.

The headline says Kris Allen, but there is no mention of him in this post. By the way, Kris was the one famous for “Falling Slowly” first, in which Simon said was “Brilliant.” Kris is the one that got American Idol to approve the song because it was not on their list.
