‘American Idol’ results: Did Kree Harrison, Lazaro Arbos make it into top 10?

American IdolDuring a rather exhausting 90-minute episode of “American Idol” on Thursday night, the entire top 10 was revealed for the live shows … and in a way that we certainly did not see coming. Rather than just announcing the results, or having the intense battle for a few spots, we were instead given something that felt like the end of an episode of “What Not to Wear.” Ryan Seacrest revealed the results to us backstage to the contestants, and then they were allowed to perform a “victory song” seconds after the judges and viewing public saw the reveal for the first time. Remember Stefano Langone? Well, he would have never made it through without a wild card.

We’re not really so interested in judging the victory songs since America was not voting for them; instead, here are our gut-check reactions to each of the artists that made it through.

Paul Jolley – As we said earlier this week, Paul is a white male country singer. His voice is good, but not great. However, as the only singer of his kind among the guys, he’s probably good for a few weeks.

Burnell Taylor – Our personal favorite among the guys, and the one that really seems capable of really making a big mark once we get to the latter stages of the competition.

Curtis Finch Jr. – Yes, we actually liked Curtis’ cover of “I Believe I Can Fly,” and we are already prepared for all of your “American Idol” songbooks straight at our head. (Luckily, those books are pretty thin.) We still don’t really connect to him as a person at all, but that can be somewhat overlooked at this stage.

Devin Velez – This is a choice that we welcome with open arms, mostly because it is so surprising to us that America really got behind the choice of a Perry Como song. Be more current, Devin! You’ll go far.

Lazaro Arbos – Yep. We told you think was coming. Lazaro’s got a big heart and a great story, and his voice can be lovely with the right song. Our advice to him? Sit down with some music historians, and help him to figure out just what his sound should be.

Janelle Arthur – You knew this was going to happen, right? Janelle was the obvious pick ever since Rachel Hale was sent home, and she may have given her best performance of the season in the victory song.

Candice Glover – If Candice did not make it through, you knew that there were be tears from every person in America with a love for music. She’s just so good, and so mature beyond her years vocally.

Angie Miller – Come on, you knew that Angie was going to make it through. You could have handed her a ticket from Hollywood Week to the top 10. Not much to say here.

Amber Holcomb – Thank you Amber, for being a woman actually willing to sing an upbeat song! Inject some live into this season! Sure, “I’m Every Woman” is almost as dated as Perry Como, but we’ll take it.

Kree Harrison – Thank goodness! Why torture us like this? Our personal pick to win the season was the last one selected, and we can’t think of a person with a better chance of selling records.

What do you think about the top 10 as a whole? Be sure to vote in the poll below, and you can check out some of our “American Idol” performance reviews over at the link here.
