‘White Collar’ season 4 finale review: Neal and Sara [spoiler] … and an arrest

Matt BomerIt was one last mission for Neal Caffrey for the season 4 finale of “White Collar.” One last con. This one involved the Empire State Building, a fake proposal for Neal and Sara (which contained a speech that we absolutely loved), and most importantly, a search for the box. For most of the episode, it was almost as though we were watching the battle for the One Ring to the Rule them all when it comes to the multiple forces all chasing this one simple object.

At the end of the day, though, what made this episode so remarkable was that the hunt for the box actually turned out to be a little bit less substantial to what happened afterwards. Neal learned that it actually was his father James who killed so many years ago; and not only that, the man also made the decision to kill now. Rather than let the Senator be taken in, he shot him, and then tried to escape while Peter took the fall for his death.

While James was telling his “heartfelt goodbye” to his son, we finally learned just what sort of man that James really was: someone that was not interested in getting himself locked away again, even if he was the responsible party and he could make a self-defense argument. This was n interesting lesson for both Neal and the viewers to learn. All season long, we had spent time hoping that this was going to be a story with a happy ending. Unfortunately, we were given a cold slap of reality that things just are not always that way in the real world, or in the world of the show.

Overall, this was yet again the sort of season finale that we imagine fans of “White Collar” loving to the point of paralysis. You don’t know what to do with yourself once it is over, and now, the wait until this fall for new episodes begins.

Overall, what did you think about the finale? If you want to check out some more “White Collar” coverage, be sure to check out the story over at the link here.
