‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6 spoilers: Kurt Sutter says Jimmy Smits deal ‘close’
We are now two weeks into the pre-production process on “Sons of Anarchy” season 6, and with that in mind, creator and showrunner Kurt Sutter had some of his best scoop to share yet in his latest “WTFSutter” video this weekend. (You can check it out below, with a warning for language as always.)
Straight out of the gate, the biggest news that Sutter unveiled was that there is movement on the Jimmy Smits front, and the actor is “close” to reprising the role of Nero in some capacity moving forward on the show. There’s no word yet on just what the character’s role for the new season would be after the events at the end of season 5, but Sutter said that he has some pretty interesting ideas for the character should the deal with the actor go through.
As for the story process, the writing team at the moment is working on the overall layout of the season, which includes mapping out key events at are meant to happen at certain points in the season. More specific work on the season premiere will begin on Monday, and Sutter confirmed that, as with many past seasons, he will be writing the episode.
As for some questions across the board, Sutter admitted that he is torn on whether or not we will see Tig ever find love; while there is a part of him that wants to see it happen, he also says that “we are all better served” seeing him in his current state. He also yet again addressed talk that season 6 could be the end of the show, and reiterated that his present desire is to see the show last until season 7 nest year. As for whether or not this could be extended, he claims that he will know around halfway through this season as to whether or not he needs more time to tie together all of the loose ends.
