‘The Walking Dead’ season 3 spoilers: Daryl, Merle fight to the death
Fans of “The Walking Dead” have less then a week left to wait until the series returns to AMC and we can finally learn what happens to our favorite cast of survivors.
When we left Merle, he was in a precarious position with the Governor, because of his lies concerning the death of Michonne. Merle’s dishonesty cost the Governor his daughter, Penny, as well as his own eye and the Governor is none too happy about either. Merle has tried to repent, telling the Governor that his loyalty lies with him and the people of Woodbury, but at this point Merle’s word just isn’t enough to convince anyone that he is still playing on their side.
When Rick and his team broke into Woodbury to save Maggie and Glenn from the Governor, Daryl got left behind and the Dixon brothers were reunited for the first time in over a year, unfortunately it is not in the way that they had hoped. The Governor wants Merle to prove his loyalty to Woodbury by killing his brother Daryl in a fight to the death. If you are hoping that someone in Woodbury is going to convince the Governor that this is a terrible idea, you will be disappointed, because the only person that will speak up in Daryl’s defense is Andrea and even though she is romantically involved with the Governor, he’s not listening to anyone.
In a new preview for “The Walking Dead” season 3 (you can check it out below) we see Daryl and Merle standing in a ring surrounded by the citizens of Woodbury, screaming for them to fight. Andrea’s pleas fall on deaf ears as the Governor calls for the Dixon brothers to fight to the death. In a surprising turn of events, Merle strikes at Daryl, knocking him to the ground and screams that he will do whatever it takes to prove his loyalty to the town.
“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Sunday, February 10th at 9 p.m. – Will you be watching? Who do you think will win in the ultimate battle between Daryl and Merle, or do you think that Rick will swoop in and save the day once again? Leave us a comment and tell us where you think this story line is going to end up. You can’t go by the graphic novel at this point. Daryl is not a character in the books.

I think Daryl kills Merle. I haven’t read the graphic novel so it’s just a deduction based on the other scenes in the sneak previews that show Daryl back with the group, alive and well. I guess that would clear up any arguments around camp over where Daryl’s loyalties lie when it comes to his brother. I’d like to think that Rick organizes another infiltration, but I think it would be too risky now with what happened the first time and Daryl will be on his own to sort it out and escape.
