As we near Super Bowl XLVII, we’re going to continue to present some of the commercials that you are going to see during the most-watched TV event of the entire year. There is ultimately going to be a number of great products shown off over the course of the night, and ultimately they will have as much humor as this one.
The ad – Time Warner Cable with “The Walking Dead”
The premise – It’s pretty simple: trying to show off all of the different ways that the cable provider allows you to watch your favorite shows, almost as if you are living and interacting with some of the characters.
What works – Pretty much everything here. Time Warner makes it very clear throughout the ad what is being advertised, and they tell you at the end where to go if you want to see some more information on it. Meanwhile, implementing a popular show works even better here than what Quill.com did with their Dunder-Mifflin paper. Getting Norman Reedus to appear here is what really steals the show.
What doesn’t – The only minor complaint we have is the guy lounging around while the wife does all of the cleaning. A little sitcomy, right?
The verdict – This is a great ad, and one of the best that we’ve seen leading up to the big game. It shows off the product well, and also introduces enough of a “wow” factor with pop-culture references galore that people will be talking about it. Even though “The Walking Dead” network AMC has had a number disputes with other providers such as Dish Network, their relationship with Time Warner Cable is certainly rock solid.
