‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9 spoilers: Shonda Rhimes talks future with Alex, Jo
Before “Grey’s Anatomy” season 9 even kicked off, creator Shonda Rhimes went on the record and said that this would be the season that we would finally see Dr. Alex Karev find some sort of real love in a post-Izzie world. So has he finally found the perfect yin to his yang in Jo Wilson? We’re getting closer to finding out; but even in spite of her previous declaration, the showrunner is currently making it rather clear that she has no interest in rushing into anything just yet.
Speaking on this very subject in a new interview with TVLine, here is what Rhimes had to say at the moment about the specific prospects of Jo and Alex moving forward through the end of the season:
“Possibly. I’m hopeful. I started out this season being very specific and sure about that, and then really wanting to calibrate that for him. We’ve been watching the chemistry between them and building things. I didn’t want to jump into an immediate romance for him. He’s been the guy who sleeps with everybody and I didn’t want to see him do that. I felt like he needed a friend. And we’ve been watching that build and I don’t want it to go too fast or too slow. We’ll see what comes. They’re now doing stuff together that just makes me laugh out loud while watching the cuts, and I don’t want to push it. Right now we’re just leaning into it.”
There are going to be a number of interesting stories coming up this season, whether it be some memorable guest-starring roles (including one played by former “Scrubs” star Sarah Chalke) or Meredith finally getting an opportunity to welcome her first biological child into the world. But being that the odds are likely that we will be seeing a “Grey’s Anatomy” season 10, don’t be too shocked if much of the Alex / Jo relationship (if it lasts) will be held until next season.

Jo is def not the one for Alex. No chemistry, she is too immature and young, and she hasn’t had his back much on the job. He needs someone who is his equal, and one that will always have his back no matter what or what excuse. Bring Lucy back!

I love that ABC photo— 10 doctors all standing around in the dark, dreary basement of Seattle Grace. Perfect!
