ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 spoilers: What is the role of Hollis now?

ScandalHave we seen the last of Hollis on “Scandal” season 2? Don’t count on it, even though the assassination storyline involving Becky, Fitz, and Huck seems to at least be reasonably wrapped up now. Executive producer Shonda Rhimes is always one to thrive in creating twists and turns, and there may still be a way yet to get this character involved in some upcoming stories.

Speaking in a recent chat with TVLine on this very subject, actor Jeff Perry, who plays Cyrus on the breakout hit, explained in rather general terms just how Rhimes may find a way to squeeze Hollis into another story at all costs:

“Hollis is a tremendously entertaining fellow, so I’ve got a feeling that Shonda [Rhimes], for sheer diabolical entertainment value, is going to somehow have him stay connected.”

For those of you who have not heard much about the structure of “Scandal” this season, it goes as follows: ABC originally ordered 13 episodes for the show, and thus Rhimes constructed a story arc that lasted this long. When the show was later given a back nine, this allowed for her to have an opportunity to create something totally new that could have theoretically not included Hollis at all. In many ways, having another story arc in this sense was a blessing in that it gives him another reason to be useful to the story.

After a week off Thursday, which was used mostly because “Grey’s Anatomy” has more episodes in its season and ABC wants to ensure that both shows end on the same date come May, “Scandal” will be back on Thursday night. Be sure to keep checking back over the next few days, since we are going to have more news to share about what to expect.
