‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Daniel Gillies will star in ‘The Originals’
For those of you worried how there could be a “Vampire Diaries” spin-off entitled “The Originals” with just Joseph Morgan on board as a series regular, know this: he is definitely going to have some company courtesy of one of his brothers.
It was confirmed on Tuesday that Daniel Gillies, who was actually the first member of the vampire family that we had met on the flagship CW series, will be reprising his role as Elijah beginning with the backdoor pilot on April 25 before becoming hopefully a full-fledged regular on the new series. The only reason that we say “hopefully” is because the series is technically in second position to his CTV series “Saving Hope,” but early word is that the production schedules are worked out so one show will not interfere with the other. plus, we don’t even know if “Saving Hope,” which was canceled in America last year, will receive a third season.
This news should be especially welcome news to Elijah fans, especially since the character has really been missing in action for most of season 4 thus far save for some flashback sequences. With this casting, the only question marks remaining for “The Originals,” at least when it comes to Klaus’ siblings, are Claire Holt and Nathaniel Buzolic. We would be stunned if Rebekah was not a part of the spin-off, where Buzolic’s Kol is a bit more of a question mark given that he has never been a major character on “The Vampire Diaries” to begin with.
There are some new characters that will be joining the Originals (plus Phoebe Tonkin) on the series, including an old protegee of Klaus’ named Marcel and Camille, a young college student unattached to the world of vampires.
Unless the backdoor pilot comes out terrible, “The Originals” has to be considered a lock for at least a 13-episode pickup, where it will likely run at 9:00 following “The Vampire Diaries” on Thursday nights.
