ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 2 spoilers: More couples scoop from Shonda Rhimes

On Thursday night we will once again have an all-new episode of “Scandal,” and there is one thing you can assume about it pretty much straight out of the gate: the couples are going to have quite a bit to do when it comes to the story. After all, Mellie spent most of the team Fitz was down dealing with a power-hungry Vice-President, and we already know quite a bit about just what Olivia is going through with her husband.

With this very subject of romance in mind, executive producer Shonda Rhimes spoke out to TVLine to explain something that makes this show so interesting to her; she very much likes writing for these pairings on the show, especially since there are so few others like them on either “Grey’s Anatomy” or “Private Practice”:

“I think that Mellie and Fitz is the most interesting marriage I’ve ever gotten to write. Cyrus and James are the healthy marriage on the show. And Nellie and Fitz are this very twisted, dark dynamic of what happens when a marriage has gone bad — and yet they still love each other, and yet I feel sorry for her a lot. I have a lot of compassion for Mellie, even when she’s doing terrible things.”

Well, it is possible that she may be doing even more of these “terrible things” moving forward to the new episode airing on Thursday night, as she has a pretty nasty hole to try and get herself out of. After all, we are looking at a character here who basically tried to forge documents, and now has her back against the wall in a pretty major way.
