ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 9, episode 10 review: Olivia walks the tightrope
“Scandal” is quickly turning into quite the excellent show, and somehow moving forward this season, it has only managed to grow even more intense as the episodes have progressed. The first arc of the season is nearing its end, and there are a number of questions waiting to be answered. Is Fitz going to wake up, and will Huck be set free? Luckily, we’re starting to at least get answers to some of these questions.
After spending the first half-hour being subjected to constant torture over his role in the Fitz assassination attempt, Olivia concocted a pretty delicate plan that involved using everything from an Attorney General and forged documents to eventually get the man released. In the process, she also had to work so that the public would believe that the President is actually awake and recovering, that way all of the stores would really line up.
Once all of this was set up, the next phase of the plan began to take down the person who was really responsible for the killing: Becky. This plan was executed by using the press to convince her that Fitz was being moved to Camp David, forcing her to try and act now in order to finish the job. The problem for her? It didn’t happen, and she was finally placed in police handcuffs. Not only that, but Huck was set free.
So was everyone finally in the clear? Far from it. Vice-President Langston, desperate to reveal the truth and hold her power, used her resources to show that the letter was a forgery … and the First Lady could be in some big trouble. The only thing saving her now is that Fitz actually did wake up at the end of the episode, and now we are dealing with whether or not this moment was too little, too late. Regardless, it was an excellent way to set the stage for next week.
