‘Fringe’ series finale: J.J. Abrams hypes up ’emotional’ conclusion

FringeEven though Sunday marked the Television Critics Association event for NBC, this still did not stop some brave reporters from asking some questions about another series that just so happens to air on Fox: “Fringe.” J.J. Abrams was present to talk about “Revolution,” and of course the inevitable subject was brought up about his other show’s series finale airing later this month.

So has Abrams seen the episode? Not yet, but he still had some very positive things to say about the hour of television that is coming up:

“It will be great. I mean, the script is unbelievable. I think it will be incredibly emotional … If it’s not satisfying, I don’t know what satisfying is.”

This statement really echoes everything that all of the writers and actors have said about the finale thus far, that it will be a final battle between Peter, Olivia, Walter and the Observers that is epic enough to really be in a major motion picture. Fox apparently has enough confidence in the finale’s ability to deliver that they are turning it into a two-hour event.

Of course, the downside to the show staging this episode in such a way is that there is only one more week left (in Friday) before the show comes to a close, which leaves very little time for reflection. Luckily, we’re going to do just about everything that we can in that time to tribute what has been a fantastic part of TV history, and a show that Fox actually showed patience with and allowed to cater to its fans.
