‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 8 spoilers: The final chapter of Robin Sparkles?

All good things must come to an end, and after years of seeing some delightful flashbacks on “How I Met Your Mother” revolving all around Cobie Smulders’ “other” alter ego in Robin Sparkles, we may be getting close to seeing the last chapter in this story (which has included hilarious music videos and a terrible TV show that she co-hosted along with a character played by Nicole Scherzinger) play out.

So how did Robin go from being a bubbly and super-successful Canadian pop star to someone who tried to move forward and forget all about this identity? This is something that we are going to find out very soon in a February episode, at least based on what executive producer Carter Bays is saying now in a new interview with TVLine:

“We [wanted to see] the next step in the progression that took her from Robin Sparkles to who she is today … What dominoes had to fall to get her from there to here? [We are going to show] a darker, edgier Robin Sparkles … We’re going to see her rebellious side come out.”

Even though Barney and Robin are now engaged and it looks like wedding bells will be on the horizon by at least the end of next season, the show is still finding plenty of storylines to move forward with. For example, we are going to be seeing soon what happens when Barney has to tell Robin’s father (Ray Wise) about proposing to his daughter without his permission, and it is also possible that we could see a little bit more of Barney’s own family at some point.
