‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9: Assorted notes about renewal drama
Want to know the latest about the possible “How I Met Your Mother” season 9 renewal? There’s some really great information coming out right now courtesy of TVLine and executive producer Carter Bays, who goes a little bit more in-depth about anything and everything associated with the process of making another year happen.
First things first, Bays points out that the date that they are really pulling for at the moment to have some sort of official decision on the show’s future is the January TCA winter press tour, where CBS will be talking with the media. While he does not fully say that the decision now firmly lies in the hands of the actors, he does say that much of the issue right now is making sure the schedule is worked out so that the likes of Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, and the rest of the gang can work on other projects while shooting 24 episodes:
“It’s something that we’re all kind of deciding together. Some of it has to do with money, but a lot of it also has to do with the schedule. We want to make sure that our actors continue to be able to do all the fun, extracurricular stuff that they do. They all have really big careers outside of our show, and we respect that and want to make sure that we’re able to make a good product and that they’re still able to do all the things they want to do. More than anything, it’s that. It’s just figuring out if and how we can do another year. That’s the question.”
The words “24 episodes” are important here, since Bays balks at the idea of the show scaling things back and airing a shorter final season. He also says that he is optimistic at the moment that a deal will get done, even though there are so many issues to sort through that this is taking longer than many expected.
