‘Game of Thrones’ season 3: New details from Iceland filming

So what is going on at the moment with “Game of Thrones” season 3 shooting in Iceland? We’re not so keen on really spoiling anything major when it comes to the show (mostly because we know that there are non-readers of the George R.R. Martin books that want to remain surprised), but there are some general location details coming in from members of the media.

First, you can see a video that gives some more insight into just how much snow there actually is at the moment in Northern Iceland at the moment, and also how hundreds of local hotel rooms are being filled by various people in production. One thing we can say with much confidence? Producers don’t have too much to worry about when it comes to details about key scenes coming out, based on the lack of crowds we are seeing here. (The video probably makes more sense if you understand the language, but the general gist is still there.)

For some more specific details, Reykjavik Travel (who is smartly trying to capitalize on the show filming in the nation) also has detailed a few locations in addition to the ones shared here that producers are likely to visit, which include Grjótagjá (a perfect site for a scene involving Jon Snow that we will not mention specifically here) and possibly Mt. Hverfjall.

Finally, here’s one last detail from executive producer David Benioff and D.B. Weiss’ assistant Cat Taylor: “Always nice when you have to defrost the props & set with a flame thrower.” Translation? It’s cold, which is exactly the way that the production team wants it for these scenes Beyond the Wall.

As always, be sure to keep checking back for more scoop from the country … even if there is not much, we’ll do our best to provide more details.
