NBC’s ‘Smash’ season 2 spoilers: Will Karen have a new love interest?

As you probably heard over the summer, Karen’s old boyfriend of Dev was just one of the many characters kicked to the curb in the creative shakedown that saw Josh Safran taking over “Smash” as showrunner; and with that, there does have to be a question as to whether or not our leading lady is going to be romanced by someone else this season. After all, haven’t we been conditioned at this point to think that with one character inevitably comes a love interest?

Well, here is some of the information that is known about this role so far. According to a new report from E! News, producers are looking for someone who is a little bit more tapped into the world of performing rather than someone camped out at City Hall. He is described as being not only a singer and a dancer, but also a womanizer. With that, you have to assume that things don’t come easy for Karen in trying to be with him and only him. (Let’s just hope that we are not going to be seeing more fighting between Karen and Ivy over a man.)

This guest star will join what is already a pretty impressive list including the likes of Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson playing a Broadway legend and Sean Hayes, who will be teaming up with his former “Will & Grace” co-star Debra Messing. There is no firm premiere date announced for the show just yet, but we almost expect a time change given that NBC would be insane to move “Revolution” away from Monday nights, where it is completely destroying everything in its path.
