Zoo season 4 renewal hopes: Is there still a chance for CBS show?
The biggest thing that we know going into the season 3 finale is that the entire team behind Zoo have done an incredible job this season when it comes to setting the bar high. They have not only amped up the drama, but have given the characters high stakes and some meaty stories. With that being said however, we also do know that the show has some obstacles right now in terms of making this season 4 renewal happen.
The biggest issue Zoo is facing right now is the decline in ratings. This is a series that is only drawing around a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and there isn’t really much of a reason for it beyond that people just aren’t watching it live. CBS gave it a great lead-in courtesy of Big Brother 19, and it has been on the air and on Netflix for the past couple of years. There have been many opportunities for viewers to catch up and get their friends hooked. Maybe it needed more on-air promotion, but we ultimately just think that the problem with Zoo is that, while it may be fun, it’s not that accessible for new viewers. Unless you’ve been watching it for a rather long time, you’re not going to be able to jump in near the end of this season and have any real understanding as to what’s going on. There are creatures called hybrids, the only pregnant person in the world giving birth, an evil sister threatening to destroy everyone, and most recently Jackson realizing that someone he’d just battled on the edge of a cliff is actually his son many years later — he actually wasn’t dead at all! It’s a lot to jump into if you don’t know the history of the team or what’s happening, so grabbing occasional viewers (or new viewers) can be difficult… but so worth it if they take the time to go back and start watching from season 1. This is easily one of our favorite summer shows!
CBS does have a little bit of time to make their decision on their Zoo season 4 renewal — CarterMatt projects that come November or so, they will have to know one way or another if they’re bringing the show back. We just hope that in the event that Zoo does get canceled, someone else finds a way to scoop it up and either give it a new home, or find a way to support many of the cast members. We’re sure that some of them will be able to find new projects — James Wolk certainly has been through the process before of seeing a show he’s on get canceled after an unfortunately short period of time. At least this one lasted longer than Lone Star did.

November? *looks aghast*……how will I endure the wait?……this is still the most original series to air in a long, long time. It’s smart, it doesn’t dumb it down for the audience, and expects you to keep up with its fast pace!! it truly is a one-of-a-kind and worthy of renewal…..*keeping my hopes up*
