Big Brother 19 finale: Winner Josh Martinez on his big victory (CBS backyard interview)

Josh Martinez had the final Big Brother 19 backyard interview of the night (as any winner should), and he had some rather interesting things to say about his season.

Take, for example, why he ended up winning in the first place. Speaking to Dr. Will Kirby following the Big Brother 19 finale, he made it clear that his biggest strength was finding a way to ensure that he was constantly underestimated in the house from start to finish. There were a number of different ways in which he achieved that, whether it be him hiding his love for the game or also working hard to ensure that nobody ever saw him as the biggest threat. He used his goodbye messages and his speeches at the end to make sure everyone knew where he was the whole time, which is not something that Paul did.

Do we think that Josh won the game mostly because people hated Paul? Sure, but he should take the win and celebrate that, since jury votes are also part of game-play. Had Paul worked people over as they went out the door, this might’ve been a different outcome.

Ultimately, the thing that made Josh’s interview with Dr. Will fun more so than anything else was seeing him tell Dan Gheesling to text him during the show, only to then see Dan go through with it and Josh freak out after the fact. While we here at CarterMatt didn’t love all of his actions in the game, you do have to remember that this is a guy who loves the show and clearly loved being a part of it — it’s always nice to see a diehard fan win, and we like the unpredictability of it. Just remember that at this point a few months ago, it felt like there was an almost zero percent chance that we would ever see someone like Josh win the game. Were it not for him taking that apple he would’ve went home the first week! It’s crazy to think how much changed as the summer went on, and also that both Cody and Mark decided to vote for him after some of the drama that the two had this season. For a good portion of the game, Cody was refusing to even speak with Josh — and he still opted to give him a vote at the very end!
