Chicago Fire season 6: Is some Stelleride drama coming up?

Stelleride

Mrs. Carter: What’s the state of the Stelleride ‘ship when Chicago Fire season 6 premieres on NBC?

For those who don’t know the terminology, Stelleride is the name for the Kelly Severide – Stella Kidd ‘ship, which is one of the most popular ones out there with this show at the moment. There is a fairly large group of people rooting to see these two characters together, and for good reason: They care about each other, they make each other laugh, and they do have a good friendship. That is something that any couple should want in a relationship, and they’ve got a really solid foundation to grow from.

Unfortunately, one of their drawbacks is that they also have a lot of baggage, given that they’ve tried to make this relationship work once before and nothing went as planned. With that in mind, CarterMatt realizes that there is no guarantee of things suddenly working out the next time these two give it a go, and they may even be hesitant of there even being a next time when they think about it.

There are still feelings that are probably there for Stelleride on some level, but one of the prevailing ones is that Stella does want Kelly to be happy (which is really something that we all want for the people that we care about). If you recall, she did her best to support the relationship that he had with Anna last season before her death; however, she may not be altogether as keen on newcomer Hope (Sylvie Brett’s childhood friend — read more on that over here) showing up and having eyes for Taylor Kinney’s firefighter this season. In speaking out on this subject more to TVLine, executive producer Derek Haas teased what’s coming here with the following:

“[Hope’s interest in Severide] may not rub everyone the right way, especially one of the firefighters who had a previous relationship with Severide.”

Why would Stella have a problem with Hope and not Anna? There are all sorts of possible reasons, whether it be the place that Kelly’s in, where her own feelings are, or there may just be something about Hope that she doesn’t like. One way or another, the Stella / Severide relationship will continue to play out on the show … even if it’s not necessarily doing so in a way that is often romantic.

New episodes of Chicago Fire premiere later this month, and for Severide and some other characters, the top priority is still going to be seeing just who makes it out of that fire alive. We’ve got our own exclusive CarterMatt interview with Haas coming before the premiere episode airs, and within that you can read more about the planning that went into making that cliffhanger happen.

Do you still ‘ship Stelleride hard on Chicago Fire?
