America’s Got Talent results preview: Who is the most likely to make finale?
Basically, last night’s performance show (you can read our full CarterMatt review over at the link here) was one of the best non-finale episodes that we’ve ever seen. Even with some of the past finales we’re pretty sure that we had stronger performances in this episode. As of now, only five are moving forward, and within this article we have to figure out just who those five are going to be. It’s no easy task this time!
Locks to advance – We don’t think there are too many, given that our perception of the show last night versus the majority of America may be very different. We do think that Angelica Hale (who performed at the end of the show) and Mandy Harvey are as close to sure things as you’re going to find. America loves singers, and they also love stories — these two each had powerful ones to tell last night, and we think that there’s a connection that has been formed there.
Likely heading home – We were all for the Pompeyo Family Dogs coming back, but after watching them last night we wish that the chance had been given to Demian Aditya instead. They’re likely goners, and we feel pretty confident that both Merrick Hanna and Christian Guardino are likely done given the strength of the field around them. They weren’t bad, but we’re not sure if there is anything more that they would bring to the show that isn’t already there.
Dunkin’ Save contenders – This leaves us with six acts, and only three spots: Celine Tam, Colin Cloud, In the Stairwell, Light Balance, Diavolo, and Kechi. All of them were very good last night, and some were even phenomenal. Both Colin and Diavolo gave two of our favorite performances on the show in years, and we probably underrated In the Stairwell last night. Looking over the cumulative performances all season, though, we’d say that Light Balance, Colin, and Diavolo would be our picks to advance of the group.
As for what America will do, CarterMatt could actually envision them going all-singer and putting through Celine (they love kid singers), Kechi, and In the Stairwell. That would make for a boring finale, so we hope that they go with Colin, In the Stairwell, and either Light Balance or Diavolo. That’s a compromise we can happily agree with. We’ll learn all of the results tonight, and rest assured that we will also have our full take on the results — including if America made the right decision or not — as the episode starts rolling along.
