Does Lena Luthor know Kara Danvers is Supergirl? New promo raises question
If you were just to watch the promo below from around the six-second mark onward, you would think that this is the same promo that came out yesterday. However, there are some clear differences from the onset, including Kara Danvers proclaiming that she needs to let that identity go more, presumably in the wake of losing Mon-El and much of what tethered Kara to National City as more of an everyday citizen. This is, of course, in opposition to the costumed superheroine who saves the city’s lives on a near-constant basis.
This eventually then leads to Katie McGrath’s character, who says something very much important in the promo: “I can tell when someone’s lying to me; you don’t have to hide it from me.” Is she referring to Kara here, or is this some sort of sneaky misdirection on the part of The CW? They’ve been known for such dirty tricks before.
If this is a full-on clue that Kara is about to admit the truth to Lena, it would take away one of the more interesting parts of the show: Lena’s one of the few people who, presumably, does not know the truth. Our feeling has been more that she’s like Cat Grant in that she knows that Kara is Supergirl but chooses to allow her to keep being Kara. Lena’s pretty smart and may be able to put two and two together.
If the promo is a misdirect, there could still be some validity to it in that Lena may be saying this about a different secret, but we are meant to read into it that Kara should come clean to her at some point. There are some reasons why she should go through with the confession, with the big one being that the two parties are friends and Kara should, at least in theory, want to trust her friend. Also, do you really want to run the risk of someone else telling Lena, and her therefore feeling quite betrayed? It would be even worse if she were to realize that every other person in Kara’s life was well aware of the secret, but she for whatever reason still opted to keep it under wraps from her. That’d be a hard pill to swallow, and given the last name alone there are always going to be questions, whether it be in CarterMatt articles or on the show, as to whether or not Lena is about to turn to the dark side.
