Supergirl season 3 video features Calista Flockhart’s new position

You may have already that Calista Flockhart is returning to Supergirl season 3 in the role of Cat Grant. However, what may be a surprise to some out there is learning that she is not returning necessarily as the head of CatCo.

We’ve got a new “Super Season” trailer below that features scoop from all of the different shows, whether it be Arrow, The Flash, or Legends of Tomorrow. It’s always great to get Calista Flockhart back on the show, but at the same time it’s even better when we learn just what Cat’s new job may be: White House Communications Director! This is clearly a job that has gotten a lot more publicity as of late thanks to Sean Spicer and the current administration, but in knowing what we do about Cat we’ve got a pretty hard time thinking that she is going to be anything like him or some other people that we’ve seen in the role. She’s of course tough and firm, but she’s got experience handling delicate matters and messaging almost like nobody’s business. As the head of one of the biggest media conglomerates out there, you can argue that she is uniquely qualified to tackle almost any problem that is out there.

We also know that there could be a reason for President Marsdin to want to hire her, mostly in that the two have known each other for some time. Also, Cat’s been around enough aliens over time for it to be clear that she is very much an alien-friendly person.

Remember that Calista Flockhart is not a series regular on Supergirl, but could make some assorted appearances here and there. This is probably what makes this role perfect for her, given that she could pop in here and there and is not essential for every single episode of the show. You want her to be able to play a part that has a certain degree of flexibility to it.

What about some of the other shows featured here?

There are some fun moments scattered throughout, but the problem with some of them is that they ended on such huge, dramatic cliffhangers that it’s pretty darn tough for The CW to say anything major without giving some big plot point away somewhere. Take, for example, a show like Arrow where there are so many major characters whose life hangs in the balance. You can’t really say too much about their fate right now!
