Timeless season 2 writers room officially open, per showrunner Eric Kripke
In a new post on Twitter (see below) courtesy of showrunner/co-creator Eric Kripke, you can see the writers back at work ready to come up with some more stories for the Time Team to navigate through. We imagine that this second season is going to be twisted, informative, fun, and also exciting … basically, everything that the first season was. We love how genre-bending it was, given that you would have a whodunit one week, a Western the next, and then a serial-killer escape story at another point in the story. Traveling through to various points in history allotted all sorts of cool opportunities for the writers to do different things.
With the Timeless season 2 writers room now open, there are obviously MANY different things that they’ll get a chance to explore, with one of the biggest ones being trying to unpack some of the craziness that we had a chance to see at the end of season 1. For example, at the end of the season it was revealed that Lucy Preston’s mother (Susanna Thompson of Arrow fame) was actually involved in the mysterious organization Rittenhouse the entire time. With that, Lucy now has to face the reality that her life is not exactly what she thought it was previously, and that there are some more secrets that she’s going to have to unravel. We also foresee now the relationship between the Time Team and Garcia Flynn being a little bit different now that they realize the hold that Rittenhouse has over history. They’re like an octopus with many different tentacles spreading over the course of time.
Remember that new episodes of Timeless season 2, regrettably, are probably still a long time away from airing. The show isn’t set to premiere until spring at the earliest, and given that filming will not even begin for Abigail Spencer and the rest of the cast until November, there is no real guarantee that the show would even be ready before then. There’s also a chance that season 2 is held to summer, and NBC uses it to shore up their schedule there. They actually have a rather good one going right now in between America’s Got Talent, Midnight, Texas, World of Dance, The Night Shift, American Ninja Warrior, and more. They’ve figured out summer so much better than any of the other broadcast networks, and with that Timeless airing over the course of June or July wouldn’t be a death sentence for the show at all.
