Blue Bloods season 8 premiere spoilers: See Frank with the new Mayor (photo)

Blue Bloods season 8

The Blue Bloods season 8 premiere is coming to CBS come Friday, September 29, but you don’t have to wait that long in order to get a good sense of what’s ahead! This first episode is entitled “Cutting Losses,” and there is certainly a tragic tinge to that given that it makes you wonder if someone is moving on from their past. Given what transpired on the season 7 finale with Danny — after all, the man’s house was burned down — we are curious to see how he and his family will move on with their lives.

With that being said, the Blue Bloods season 8 premiere is also going to feature some other important stories that could be important to the future of the show. Take a look at the synopsis below for a little more insight on all of this:

“Danny contemplates retiring until Erin enlists him to help her with a case involving her ex-husband, Jack (Peter Hermann). Also, Jamie and Eddie go undercover as a couple, and Frank butts heads with the new mayor of New York City, Margaret Dutton (Lorraine Bracco).”

There’s clearly a lot to unpack from that, so let’s just go at it in waves.

Peter Hermann is back! – We’re always going to be excited about that, and we’re even more intrigued given the context in which Jack is returning.

Why would Danny retire? – It probably does stem from what happened with the fire, and the fear that maybe he isn’t putting his family in the best position by continuing to be a cop. It’s a dangerous job where you make enemies, and if they know where you live, that expands the danger tenfold.

Jamie / Eddie scoop – Vanessa Ray is back after being away from the show at the end of season 7, and you’re going to see a story here that could bring her character (finally) closer to being with Jamie. It’s a long time coming if it finally happens; this case at least should serve as a simulation of what being a couple would be like for them in real life. We just don’t want to get anyone too excited about them being romantic just yet, mostly because this is Blue Bloods and the story could veer off in whatever direction the writers want it to.

The new Mayor – You can see the first photo of Lorraine Bracco as the new Mayor above; we know already that she is someone very tied to the New York elite, and she could pose different challenges for Frank than what he saw with Mayor Poole (David Ramsey) the past few seasons. We are too excited about Bracco since she was one of our favorite characters over on Rizzoli & Isles which is a show we miss tremendously.

Clearly, the show is moving a lot of stories forward in “Cutting Losses,” so we’ll see what happens with many of them on the other side of the episode. We’re certainly going to have more previews before the premiere.
