Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Justin Chambers, more join Ellen Pompeo in new poster
After last season’s poster featured only Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, this time around the network is throwing in all of the original cast members. That means Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Chandra Wilson are also on the poster, even if Pompeo is still in prime position.
Check out the poster below (courtesy of TVLine) — there are a few different things to unpack in here.
1. Does this mean anything in terms of screen time? – Not so much. This was clearly just ABC wanting to honor the actors who have stuck with the show from the beginning.
2. What about them being spliced into Meredith’s head/hair? – We think this achieves two different things: It’s a cool visual, and maybe this is a play on the title that all of these people are, in one way or another, a part of her “anatomy.”
3. Should you read anything else into it? – Not really. You can speculate about Alex/Meredith all you want, but this doesn’t mean that they are anything more than friends. If you were to do that based on this poster, you’d have to do the same thing about the other characters! This is just a cool design from the network, though everyone in here is considerably more pleasant than they will probably be much of the season. (Sure, we’ve all probably heard reports here and there about season 14 having a somewhat lighter tone, but this is one of those things that we’ll better believe when we see it.)
As the poster indicates, Grey’s Anatomy season 14 premieres on Thursday, September 28, and this is going to be an interesting season for many reasons. Krista Vernoff is coming back on the show behind the scenes after many off elsewhere, and you’re also going to get a chance to see the return of Kim Raver for the first time in years as Teddy. Abigail Spencer is replacing Bridget Regan in the role of Megan Hunt, and there are rumors aplenty about the return of Matthew Morrison as Paul — one of the biggest pieces of evidence that the “lighter tone” for the show is really not all that light at all (or at least it won’t be all of the time).
One of the reported new additions at the moment is DeLuca’s sister, someone who will be bringing to the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital a very different medical profile than what has been there before — plus plenty of DeLuca backstory to go along with it.
