Could Elementary season 6 be the end? Show exec on ambiguous future

Elementary season 6

At the moment, there is absolutely a state of flux going on when it comes to Elementary season 6 on CBS. There’s no guarantee of a season 7! The ratings are on the low end of the network’s programming, it’s at the point in its run where shows start to become more expensive, and while it does perform well via DVR machines and internationally, that may only help the show for so long.

Ultimately, though, this information is something that the show almost certainly would like to know sooner rather than later. It’s also something that executive producer Rob Doherty discussed recently to TVLine:

“We’re not sure yet [on the show’s future]. We want to do everything we can do to keep it from being the last season. But we’ll see where we are in a few months.”

One other thing that makes things all the more chaotic for Elementary is the sole fact that it only has 13 episodes at the moment — but that could change. Remember for a moment or two that CBS has a schedule that is in flux just as many other networks that are out there, and it’s absolutely possible that they could opt to order extra episodes in the event that something in the fall gets canceled. Things often change at the last second if a show gets canceled, and the show has to be prepared for that. We’d like to see Elementary get around 18 or so episodes if it is possible. We’ll just have to wait and see.

One way or another…

The biggest thing that we do want to see for the show is that if this does turn out to be the end, the writers have the time to wrap it up properly. Let’s just hope that they take advantage of whatever opportunity they are given, and that CBS also allows them at the same time with a chance to tell a complete story and don’t pull the rug out from under them. We don’t want to see the show canceled in May; if it ends, let it end with grace and with a story that ties up the Sherlock – Joan relationship.

Also, can’t we see Natalie Dormer one more time? We feel like if we do shout this question into the universe long enough, it may actually come true. Maybe this is just a blind hope on our part, but we’re going to keep saying it. (Dormer has said that she wants to come back and play Moriarty at some point, and there may be no other time than the present.)

Meanwhile, click here in the event you want some other news when it comes to Elementary without delay. The show doesn’t have a firm premiere date, but we would like to see it come back in January if at all possible. That gives it flexibility for more episodes. (Photo: CBS.)
