The Night Shift season 4 episode 9 preview: A shooter on the loose

Night Shift season 4 episode 9

The Night Shift season 4 episode 9 is airing on NBC August 24, and arguably the scariest thing about it is that it’s the penultimate episode this year. There are only two more stories that we’ll get to see before either the hiatus or the end of the series is here.

For the record, we discussed earlier in the day the show’s renewal odds and feel like the ball is very much in NBC’s court — the ratings are not bad enough that it’s a guaranteed cancellation, but they are also not good enough to be a guaranteed renewal. If you love The Night Shift and watch it on a weekly basis, the biggest piece of advice that we’ve got for you is to watch the show live! Even in this era where DVR viewing and streams matter, this is the way that the network gets the biggest return for the show.

Now, let’s get into a discussion for a moment about what is actually coming within this episode.

The Night Shift season 4 episode 9 synopsis – “TC (Eion Macken) and Jordan (Jill Flint) accompany a SWAT team on a raid and wind up with an emergency room full of sickened immigrants, including one with murderous intentions. Scott (Scott Wolf) pulls a dream team together to impress the Colonel in charge of setting up a combat training program. More is learned about Cain’s (guest star Mark Consuelos) past. Kenny (JR Lemon) shares some big news with the group, while Shannon (Tanaya Beatty) keeps something personal from Paul (Robert Bailey Jr.).”

When it comes to Cain, time really is of the essence here. Consuelos is a major part of Riverdale season 2 as Veronica’s father Hiram Lodge, and with that, there’s probably going to be a sense of urgency to resolve his story this season. What we’ve enjoyed about having him on the show this season is that he brings an element of mystery to the proceedings, while also adding a different perspective and someone to serve as a good foil to Kenny.

As for the TC – Jordan case, we hope that this episode is a reminder of the humanity in all of us. The show doesn’t have to get altogether political to proclaim a message of compassion for one another as human beings.

This makes it clear what the biggest crisis at the center of the hour is going to be, and that’s the active shooter that is putting many lives in jeopardy. It’s not the first time that some of these characters have been in near-death situations, but this is a different sort of stakes given that you’re dealing with an unpredictable adversary.
