Blindspot season 3 spoilers: Jane / Weller answers coming immediately

Jane / Weller

If you’re an eager Jane / Weller fan looking for information in Blindspot season 3, all signs point to you getting information you’ll be happy with.

While the season finale flashed forward in the closing minutes to reveal Jane separate from the team and her newfound boyfriend, there will be an effort very early on in the premiere episode to start to fill up some of the holes a little bit. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Martin Gero confirms that we’ll be jumping into flashbacks fairly early on in the story to make it clear what’s happened with Jaimie Alexander and Sullivan Stapleton’s characters to showcase further why they’ve split up:

“You’ll see flashbacks … We hope to fill in a lot of it right away in the first two or three minutes of the show. No fan of the show will want to miss the opening of the season that will endeavor to fill in a lot of what the hell is going on. Why did she run away? Are Jane and Weller married? All those questions will be answered in the first few minutes.”

We almost hope that the two parties aren’t married, just because we can imagine what some of the reaction is going to be to that news — and it probably wouldn’t be pretty. The most important thing to us is that, in some way or another, Gero and the writers find a way to pair everyone back up again given that this is a relationship that really serves as the primary foundation of the show. Without it firing on all cylinders, we figure that it’s hard for the show to maintain the same identity or the sense of strength that it once had.

There are also some challenges coming in the direction of Blindspot just based on the timeslot alone. After all, we’re moving over from Wednesday night to Friday, and that’s not the easiest spot in the world to thrive. To make matters all the more challenging, the show is airing against another show in MacGyver who may share some of its action-oriented viewership. We’re curious to see how these shows fare head-to-head, and hope that some viewers out there simply have their DVR machines set to record the one that they’re not watching. Blindspot won’t premiere until a little later in the fall, which should at least mean that each show should have some weeks in which the other one is not on the air. That will allow both of them a chance to shine on their own two feet.
