Poldark season 3 episode 7 promo analysis: Agatha comes for George

Poldark season 3 episode 7 promo

If there is one moment from the recent Poldark season 3 episode 7 promo that triggers a significant “oh snap,” it is courtesy of Aunt Agatha. The series’ oldest character has a history of also being the most biting, and she is also one of the few people bold enough to make significant strikes against George Warleggan really without caring for any of the consequences at all.

In the video below, you do have a chance to see some of that further as Agatha makes it clear to George, who is being awful to her, that his “eight-month baby” didn’t exactly look like one that would be born prematurely. She’s throwing that seed into his brain that he is not the father of Elizabeth’s child, something that hasn’t necessarily been confirmed one way or the other on the show.

The truth here is, for the most part, that this statement from Agatha is not going to help her at all, and it’s also likely to cause further friction between him, his wife, and eventually Ross. Yet, it sure is delightful to hear in the moment! Clearly, Agatha gives zero you-know-whats at this point, and she really shouldn’t given that she’s been treated terribly and George is someone not even interested in allowing Ross to stop by for her hundredth birthday. (We gotta say, Agatha looks pretty good for 100!)

As for a few other insights from the promo below…

Hugh Armitage is trouble — at least for Ross and Demelza

You can see the beginnings of some tension here as Hugh, brought back from France alongside Dwight Enys, takes a liking for Ross’ wife. There are so many interesting dynamics here, especially when it comes eventually get to one important fact: How much can Ross really blame her for anything, given that he previously was unfaithful to Demelza? Granted, Eleanor Tomlinson’s character hasn’t actually done anything with Hugh yet, but the preview does signal a slight cause for concern.

Political problems

There is a major consideration in here as to whether or not Ross should run for office and establish a better sense of government — we do know that he knows the people of Cornwall well and cares for their plight! It’s too bad that he’s going to have some significant and predictable opposition here should he decide to run.

Finally, fear for Morwenna

On this past episode, the character (a fantastic new addition to the series) made the ultimate sacrifice in order to ensure the safety of the man she loved in Drake: She allowed herself to be married to the man we like to refer to mostly as Awful McAwfulface for some many reasons. He’s abusive, angry, conniving, and she’s going to hate every second of that life. However, she probably feels some satisfaction in that her actions enable Drake to be alive and free for any further scorn.

Someday, many the two will get a chance to have some love again. Unfortunately, it doesn’t feel as though that’s coming anytime soon.
