Poldark season 3 episode 6 spoilers: Aidan Turner on Ross’ ambitions

Aidan Turner

Is Aidan Turner’s character of Ross about to make some big changes moving into Poldark season 3 episode 6? Some early indications suggest so!

Let’s kick things off here by reminding everyone for a moment as to where the story is: Ross’ rival George is only gaining political power, while there are people across Cornwall who are suffering from famine. Meanwhile, Ross has just returned home after witnessing great suffering in France; he was able to rescue a man he cares about greatly in Dwight Enys, it did come at a cost.

As the story involves, Ross starts to learn more that he needs to move forward in life, and be more than just a dashing captain who fights in the field. Here is what Turner had to say on the subject recently, per the Express:

“There is only so much Ross can achieve with fighting and he realises he needs to get involved politically … It’s the next step and where he needs to go to make a real change.”

Seeing Ross become more involved in politics should prove very interesting, mostly because of the fact that he is still beloved by many despite his misgivings, and he could have some support. Also, it’s fun to think about this just because you know that George would hate it. Given that we’re all for Ross gaining power, seeing Warleggan have tantrums when things don’t quite go his way is one of the better things that there is about this show.

Of course, there are some other problems for Ross…

One of the big ones could be the arrival of Hugh Armitage, who is in Cornwall after he was also freed alongside Dwight in France. There will be some almost-instant chemistry between him and Demelza, and this could lead to questions about her marriage. This comes of course after Ross was unfaithful last season with Elizabeth, and Ross may even be the father of her son.

It is thanks to this brief (but terrible) incident that Turner notes some of Ross’ complicated feelings that could be coming thanks to Demelza and Hugh:

“Ross can sense that energy with Demelza and Hugh. He might suspect something is going on. But what grounds does Ross have to complain, if she does have an affair?”

Of course, we will always root for Ross and Demelza, but we say this objectively as someone who hasn’t quite seen any of the original series and do not know where the story goes: They need to root for each other, and there needs to be a push and pull. For Ross, that may include being more active at home and a little less willing to go on various adventures.

What do you think should happen next with Ross and Demelza?
