The X Factor UK hoping for Simon Cowell – Cheryl reunion
As for the reasoning behind the reunion chatter (which is, for the record, just for Simon Cowell’s stage of the judges’ houses), much of that seems to stem mostly from getting headlines. There’s no doubt that Cheryl is a huge star. She and Liam Payne also have a child together, and the One Direction – X Factor ties for the two of them are obvious. It’s a big reunion for them potentially on the series, and it could draw some ratings.
With that being said, we do think that the whole booking is being exaggerated beyond all measure in the British press … which really shouldn’t shock anyone at this point. Here is what one source had to say per the Daily Star:
“Simon wants to pull out all the stops for this year’s show and bagging Cheryl’s long-awaited return to telly would be one of his top wishes … It would be telly gold. Nothing’s decided yet, but bosses are very fond of Cheryl and when she’s ready to do something, of course we’d be interested.”
Do we think that Cheryl would be good on the show? Sure, but it should be noted here for a moment that this is just for a tiny part of the competition. Maybe the adviser at the judges’ houses gets in a few good lines, but for the most part the focus is on the talent and rightfully so. We don’t know that many people who have ever watched a singing show because someone they like is in one episode, and then they get hooked for the rest of the season.
Eventually, it would be more interesting to see Cheryl return in an official capacity someday as a judge, but we’re not there yet and the show actually has a panel right now that works fairly well. There is some chemistry between all of the parties, and given that this is not something that we’ve always had, we may as well just celebrate it for the time being.
