Lucifer season 3: The current pre-production progress report

Lucifer season 3

How are things going moving into Lucifer season 3? First and foremost, we’re right there with all of you in terms of being eager. This is a show that ended a little over a month ago, and given the state of the title character, it’s definitely understandable to want more.

Alas, you’re going to be waiting for a while in order to learn just how Lucifer escapes his current fate out in the middle of the desert — and with wings! The same goes for how Tricia Helfer will be returning, given that Mom seems to be gone and the original Charlotte is back in her place. These answers are going to come your way this fall, when the season 3 premiere airs on Fox.

What we can tell you is that there is already some planning being done for the story ahead! In a new post on Twitter, the show’s writers confirmed that they are in the process of breaking the first few episodes of the season. What that means effectively is that they’re coming up with what some of the larger arcs are going to be, and how the show gets from point A to point B. Many of the specifics will be put together in different scripts, but with there being different writers often working on different episodes simultaneously, this is something that has to be done in order to make everything work.

Production for season 3 will begin most likely in a matter of weeks. Remember that there are some episodes already in the bank (four to be precise), so this season has a little bit of a head start.

As for some other season 3 scoop…

Just in case you want a small slice of story specifics, we do very much think that what Aimee Garcia (Ella) told TVLine is rather fun:

“There might be a fun, little road trip that she takes with the Devil… that might involve some singing and dancing.”

Anything that gets Ella out in some different places, right? One of the things about her character, and many that are thrust into the “lab tech / medical examiner / pick something in a lab” role is that they spend almost the entirety of their time there explaining what is going on in relation to the case. If you can find some ways to get them outside of that, you can experiment and play around a little bit more. That, to us, is something worth celebrating — plus, the idea of getting to see these characters dance around a little bit. It may be the closest thing that we get to a Lucifer musical episode in the near future. (Let’s be honest, though: Wouldn’t that be fun, and aren’t there some crazy ways to make that happen in the writing?)
