Could Better Call Saul season 4 have larger Gene – Omaha storyline?

In the event that Better Call Saul season 4 is announced by AMC, is there a bigger future ahead for Gene?

The thing is, Gene is the only part of the AMC show where there is some sort of tangible mystery, largely given that this is Jimmy McGill’s new life following the events of Breaking Bad. He’s turned into a shell of his former self. He’s not a lawyer anymore, and is stuck managing a Cinnabon in Omaha. It’s always been a rather weird bit of product placement for the cinnamon roll company to embrace, but they’re still trying to do their best to rock it and own it now. Might as well make money on it, right?

Bringing back Gene would give the show a greater sense of mystery, and the powers that be are definitely considering — even if it is far from a sure thing at present. For more news on that, just take a look at what executive producer / writer Gennifer Hutchinson had to say about the Gene idea:

“That’s definitely a possibility. Having those flash-forwards allows us the option to maybe delve a little deeper into the future. But there’s no explicit plan. Obviously, we talk about it, but we’re still kind of figuring out exactly, rhythmically, what this journey looks like. And even when we say, “Oh, we want to get to this point,” sometimes you get there much faster or much slower than you initially expect to.”

New episodes of Better Call Saul will most likely air in 2018 and there isn’t really all that much to worry about in terms of the show’s future. The Gene story could be a good one to explore more fully whenever the final season is; personally, our vision is to figure out a way to bring in someone from the original version of the show into the future, whether it be a Kim Wexler or a Nacho. They are at present two of the best options, especially now with the reveal that Chuck is apparently dead and that Michael McKean is not returning to the show in a regular capacity. (He may still turn up in flashbacks.)
