Poldark season 3, The Loch ratings fall for BBC, ITV

Loch

The ratings are in for the second week of Poldark and The Loch, and today the results are a little bit of good news mixed with bad.

Let’s start with the ratings for Poldark season 3, which fell following its most-recent airing; specifically, it finished with 4.6 million people watching live. Per a report from Telly Mix, this is a drop of around 900,000 viewers from the premiere rating. This may show that it wasn’t just Victoria that was causing it problems this past fall. Some of the show’s performance is just is what it is, a function of the viewers that it has now regardless of the competition. This is the audience of people watching live, and in this current era of ratings, this is certainly a very solid performance. We don’t want to suggest that a decline here means anything otherwise since the numbers were solid in the first place.

Obviously, there is already a Poldark season 4, so with that in mind, there is really not anything to worry about here at all from that standpoint. We just like to report on great news, especially when it’s related to a show that we do love and we do cover here at the site with some regularity.

The news for Poldark is absolutely still better than The Loch, given that the ITV series ended up getting in total a 3.8 million viewers. That’s a pretty big drop from its premiere, and there is still a chance that the show could lose more viewers before the end of its season. That trajectory does tend to happen with new shows.

Ultimately, though, our prognosis is rather simple: Both shows will recover from this. The ratings are decent as they are, but Poldark in particular is a hit. As the season goes along, there will be more and more buzz forming around it. With that, there should be an opportunity to see the ratings surge a little bit. Think of things this way: The temptation to watch live tends to be there the most when there is a risk that someone is going to spoil a key plot point to you. With Poldark, it’s starting to be relatively clear that we’ll be nearing that point before too long.
