Better Call Saul season 3 finale: The Kim Wexler future possibilities

Better Call Saul season 3

Given that the most-recent episode of Better Call Saul nearly featured the death of Kim Wexler, isn’t now the time to look her future? It certainly makes sense now that her mortality has been so tested.

We’ll be honest: There was a moment after the accident that we thought that could be the end of the character, given that she’s not in the Breaking Bad timeline. We love that this wasn’t the case and it was more of a wake-up call to consider the end of the road for Kim. We also do love the fact that Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould chose to show Kim leaving the car rather than just giving you some silly / gratuitous cliffhanger. This made the show so much smarter, and proved that it doesn’t need to rely on silly tricks.

Now, let’s spend a moment or two laying out what the possible field is for the Kim character now.

Kim is dead – This is the easiest theory to jump to, but it is also one of the most boring given the sole fact that it’s predictable. We want to be of the belief that Kim could turn up in the future with Gene, and we’ll get to discussing that further down the road.

Kim leaves Jimmy – This is also a possibility that makes a whole lot of sense, given that she could decide that she’s have enough and says goodbye to him. Here’s the one problem with that: Nobody ever seems to really get better in the Breaking Bad universe. They get worse and worse and worse until they explode.

Jimmy leaves Kim – This is a little more interesting to us. Jimmy is becoming Saul, but there is still a little bit of a nice guy still wedged in here somewhere. As a result of that, it’s easy to envision a scenario where he realizes that he’s in too deep, and the only way he can convince her to go is to fall on her own sword. She eventually finds a way to move forward and finds happiness, which she deserves.

Kim spirals – This to us is the most interesting end for the character: Eventually she loses her clients, becomes another version of Jimmy, and at some point down the line they’re separated. Maybe she’s arrested and Jimmy doesn’t try and help her; then, down the road, she tracks him down at the Cinnabon and they look at themselves and what they’ve done. Jimmy, as Gene, is serving out his own form of a sentence now.
