Outlander season 3: One more Caitriona Balfe – Sam Hueghan celebration

Heughan celebration

Why not have one last Caitriona Balfe – Sam Heughan celebration when it comes to Outlander season 3?

As you likely saw with our update yesterday, filming is now over for the third season! We’re not just talking about in South Africa, either, as filming is done all over the world for the next few months at least. There is still more work to be done, but why not raise a glass in this honor?

The photo below is one of our favorite behind-the-scenes shows, mostly because of how much it combines period garb and sets with modern sensibilities. This is part of the fun and the humor that comes with trying to shoot a period show — once the cameras stop rolling, you look around and there are green screens and people in front of you wearing blue jeans and polo shirts.

Also, the look on Sam’s face is very much “I’m proud of you.” It’s delightful. For these two, there will be much more work to do in the future; but, it won’t be quite the same as what they did for this season. Being halfway around the world probably brought the cast and crew even more together than ever before.

Rest assured there will be many more updates coming up when it comes to Outlander and its cast, but for now, celebrate! (Or, read the rest of this article before doing so for a pre-production update.)

The work never ends

Meanwhile, executive producer Matthew B. Roberts gives you a good reminder of the reality of working on a show like this — he doesn’t get that much of a hiatus. There are more scripts to write in preparation for the fourth season of the show, based on the Diana Gabaldon book Drums of Autumn. It’s something that he’s been preparing for even before taking off to South Africa to work on the show. It’s this sort of year-round work that really makes you give kudos to everyone who works on the show.

Production for season 4 could start later this year, but nothing is confirmed as of yet. We’re just happy to have that renewal in advance, given it makes matters so much easier.

As always, we welcome more of your thoughts on this Outlander story now in the comments!

Meanwhile, be certain to head over here in the event you want some additional news right now on the end of film, including more from Sam and Cait! (Photo: Starz.)
