Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams featured in Detroit: Become Human

Jesse Williams

A funny thing happened while watching Sony’s E3 presentation on Monday night: We thought that we recognized Jesse Williams in the trailer for Detroit: Become Human.

Well, as it turns out, the Grey’s Anatomy star was the guy featured in the trailer for the ambitious video game. Williams confirmed the news in a post on Twitter; as some people know, he’s already done a ton of motion-capture work on the show. This is a game that does require some serious acting chops, given that the script here comes from David Cage of Heavy Rain fame. That game was one of the biggest story-based creations of its generation, so this probably required quite a bit of preparation and work from Williams to pull off — and that’s only so far.

What’s interesting is that even though Grey’s Anatomy is not the first show that you think about in terms of having connections to video games, there actually is one there already with Camilla Luddington. The actress, best known for playing Jo on the ABC series, actually is the star behind the recent Tomb Raider series of games. Like Jesse, she’s got a lot of experience now dealing with certain styles of motion capture and being in that world. It’s such a different environment than anything else that actors tend to get to experience.

Detroit: Become Human does not have a firm premiere date just yet, but that is something that we’re hoping to learn a little bit more about in the coming months. If there is one thing that we’ve learned just from being a fan of video games over the years, it is that they often take forever and a day to make. (Sometimes, you’ve got a game like The Last Guardian that seems to take practically forever to come out.)

In getting back to Grey’s Anatomy, the new season of the ABC show will start filming later this summer in preparation for its launch a little bit later this fall. Hopefully, the network will announce a premiere date soon.
